December 14 – Appreciate What’s the one thing you have come to appreciate most in the past year? How do you express gratitude for it? (Author: Victoria Klein)
Since I went back to work for a social service agency that serves families at or below the poverty level I’ve become more appreciative of everything we have. When you see family after family go by your desk each day to the food pantry you realize that your idea of “poor” doesn’t even come close.
Last month when we had to have the plumbing fixed and Jim was going on about the bill I reminded him that we are lucky we had the money to pay it. And that even when I was off work for seven months our "worst case scenario” never included taking Robert and living in the Jeep.
We express gratitude by remembering all that we do have and donating to those who don’t. We give both money and goods. I donated Robert’s winter coat from last year and was delighted to walk back to the clothes closet and see that it had been taken within a few hours of being hung up. It was in excellent shape and had a lot of good use left in it.
