New 52: Week 13

Worlds of Fun Park Map

Our “new” this week is we are now season pass holders to World’s of Fun and Oceans of Fun… whoo hoo!!!!  I am so excited!  It’s one of the midwests largest amusement parks and water parks.  It’s about 15 minutes from our house.  I have so many memories of going there every year growing up and working there in college.  This year they are opening up a huge new Camp Snoopy expansion and I LOVE Snoopy.  I can’t wait to take Robert.

He is going to be so excited at Oceans of Fun, they have a pirate ship in the kids area!  I see a lot of sunshiny “Aaarrgghh’s!!!!” in our future.  This will be our swimming pool for the summer  Smile

When I found out that season passes are discounted until the 15th and that there is now free parking with season passes, it really became a no brainer.  If we go to each park once, it’s paid for itself.  And since the parking pass goes with your season pass, we can meet there after work and not worry about meeting somewhere and getting down to one car instead of two.

My friend Nancy is thinking about getting passes for her and her kiddos too since she’ll now have someone to go with since her husband works odd hours.  That would be a lot of fun.

Ten on Tuesday

1.  Today was the Mayoral election in Kansas City.  Jim and I met at the poll again like we did for the primary.  It seemed to work well.  Disappointed that we were there for the last 2 hours of the election and there were less than 325 votes cast in our precinct.  Hate voter apathy.  This little guy has no voter apathy… he loves sticking the ballots in the machine!

2.  I won two tickets to the zoo’s Flights for Flippers today.  It’s a wine tasting and comedy show at the zoo Thursday night to help bring penguins to the KC Zoo.  I invited Nancy to go along… hope she can get a sitter!  Looking forward to a little “girls night”.

3.  Robert and I were playing with his dinosaurs tonight.  He was the mama t-rex and I was the baby t-rex.  Very interesting dialogue.  He “sent” me to school and said I would like it there, they are nice and I could play with the kids while he (mama t-rex) goes to work.

4.  We’ve set up Saturday as the day to meet at my Uncle’s house and go through my Aunt’s stuff to take what we want and help my Uncle deal with the rest.  I’m not looking forward to it but I know it needs to be done.

5.  I’m starting to wonder if Robert will ever be potty trained!  He’s great about using the potty if we take him but he won’t tell us when he needs to go.  Ugh, ugh, ugh!!!  I’m really hoping that by summer we are fully potty trained.  I know it’s going to be like everything else with him, a light will go on and he’ll be done with pull ups.

6.  Watching Teen Mom 2 and getting so pissed at these girls.  These poor kids deserve better than a parent half-ass playing Mommy.  Grrrrr.  I think it pisses me off most because I see my niece making so many of the same mistakes.

7.  A lot of drama last week with my nephew.  It was frustrating and really hurt my feelings but we got past it.  I especially like him basically telling me to fuck off via Facebook.  Seriously???  I finally told him if you want me to quit helping you say the word, he reconsidered.  I know things are tough for him right now and some things were out of his control.  He took some bad advice from his mother and it’s had serious legal consequences and we’ve had to hire a lawyer.  He is upset about how much it is costing and doesn’t want my Mom and I paying it but I finally convinced him that he is worth it.  I just wish I had my little, confident guy back.  It’s been years since he’s believed in himself.

8.  Some really cool stuff happening at work.  Feel like I’m hitting my stride.  A lot of big thoughts… now just to get some plans in place.

9.  The city is once again not opening our neighborhood pool due to budget cuts.  Grrr.  I sent the parks department an email:

Perhaps you ought to start making your decisions based on who is paying for these pools to stay open.  You get your money through taxes… let’s look at median household incomes for the pools you are operating:
Brush Creek (64130) – $24,226 median household income
Budd Pool (64108) – $27,508 median household income
The Grove Pool (64127) – $21,868 median household income
Swope Pool (64133) – $24,266 median household income
Then there’s Line Creek (64151) – $56,974 median household income
So, I’m paying more in taxes and you’re going to charge me more to go to my "local" pool.
Season Pool Pass for Inner City Pool for family of three – $75
Season Pass for Tiffany Springs Pool for family of three – $185
Season Pass for KC Family of three to the Gladstone Pool – $145
Oceans of Fun Season Pass for family of three – $179
Yes, it would be cheaper for me to get a season pass to Oceans of Fun than it would to go to the nearest Kansas City pool.  I think you would agree that the amenities at Oceans of Fun are a bit more impressive than Tiffany Springs.

They did not respond.  Go figure.  So I think we’re going to go with World’s of Fun/Oceans of Fun season passes for the whole family.  A lot of trips to the amusement/water park in our future.

10.  I’m really thinking I would like to start getting more politically active.  We shall see.  Since I have so much spare time.

Monday Fun Day–Dino Hunt!

Jim was in charge of Monday Fun Day this week.  We had a dinosaur hunt!  He picked up a Tub-O-Dinosaurs and hid them in the back yard.  He then got a bag and told Robert that dinosaurs had escaped and were in our back yard and it was his job to find them.

Robert had a blast.  It was the perfect night.  I got home first and got dinner started then the boys got home and Jim got to hiding.  It was sunny and 80 degrees out… absolutely beautiful!

He Was So Brave

Saturday night I said to Robert, “Come here, let me whisper in your ear.”  Then I whispered in his ear, “Do you want to go eat at a dinosaur restaurant?”  What he heard was, “We’re going to a restaurant where dinosaurs are going to eat your ears.”

All the way to T-Rex he kept saying that he wanted to go but they couldn’t eat his ears.  His bravery wavered a little bit on the way into the restaurant and he scrunched his head down trying his best to protect his ears.

Luckily for him the line was way too long (1 1/2 hour wait) so we opted to go somewhere else, and his ears lived to fight another day.

New 52: Week 12

Ah yes, back to new food… actually a new restaurant.  A week ago I was asked to stop at a Chez Elle and pick up a gift certificate they were donating to our spring auction.  The minute I saw the menu I knew Jim would love it, so I picked up an extra menu and brought it home for him.  This morning we headed there for breakfast.

The food was spectacular.  I had strawberry crepes and a mocha.  Jim had the cheese blintz and said it was the best he has ever had… high praise from my foodie husband.  He also thought the coffee was excellent.  Robert had a muffin and chocolate milk.

The bonus for me, above great food, was it was super kid friendly.  It’s not always easy to find a restaurant with really good food where we’re super comfortable with the fact that for most of our meals out, Robert is with us.  Often times family time means sacrificing good food for a more comfortable environment.  Or rushing through a meal so that you can get on your way.  Not the case here.  He loved the order number holders that were shaped like the Eiffel Tower.  Of course, he decided they were rocket ships.

There was a small sitting area with child size chairs, books and games.  After Robert finished eating he decided to check it out.

I’m thrilled that we’ve found a great place for a Sunday morning breakfast!  And I love being able to support our donors.  It’s definitely a win-win.

Monday Fun Day–New 52 Week 11

My “New” this week was an idea I borrowed from another blog.  I came across this blog yesterday when I was surfing and really liked the “Crazy Mommy Time” idea.  So I decided to start “Monday Fun Day” at our house.  Something fun and unexpected on a Monday because whose Monday couldn’t use something fun and unexpected?  I’m going with “Monday Fun Day” because I’m assigning Jim some Mondays to plan too Smile

So, tonight on my way home I stopped at Party City and picked up some cans of Silly String.  I took them home, gave two to Jim and told him to wait in the kitchen until I called him.  I grabbed Robert, took him to his room and introduced him to silly string.  It was love at first shot.  Once he got the hang of squirting we called for Daddy.  Then it was on!  All out Silly String war in Robert’s room.  He loved it.  We loved it!  It was messy but cleaned up quickly.  Within 15 minutes of the Silly String being gone the room was back in perfect order.

Can’t wait to see what Jim comes up with next Monday Smile
